Monsoon Forecast for Aug 26, 2017: Rain in Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh

Southwest Monsoon remained vigorous to active over Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka, Rayalaseema, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Active Monsoon conditions were observed over South Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Interior Odisha, Chhattisgarh and parts of Madhya Pradesh. Normal Monsoon conditions were seen over remaining parts of West Bengal, Northeastern states, Telangana, Vidarbha, Marathwada, West Madhya Pradesh, parts of East Rajasthan and Coastal Odisha.

Major rain contribution came from Raipur that recorded 74 mm of rainfall, followed by Shirali 72 mm and Mahabaleshwar 64 mm.

As on August 24, the cumulative countrywide rainfall remains deficient by 6%. As far as the regional distribution is concerned, Northwest India, Central and South India are rain deficient by 3%, 9% and 12%, respectively. Whereas, East and Northeast India remains normal by 1%.

At present, the axis of monsoon trough is passing through Narnaul, Gwalior, Varanasi, Puruliya and Balasore and is extending up to North Coastal Odisha.

During the next 24 hours, Monsoon will remain active over South Jammu and Kashmir, Parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh, many parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Interior Odisha, Vidarbha, West Assam, parts of Telangana, Konkan and Coastal Karnataka.

Normal Monsoon conditions are expected over Northeastern states, South Gujarat, foothills of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, South Interior Karnataka, Kerala and North Tamil Nadu. Remaining parts of the country will observe subdued Monsoon conditions.
