Monsoon Forecast for Aug 25, 2018: Monsoon rains in Delhi, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Lucknow, Gaya

Presently, the axis of Monsoon trough is passing through Firozpur, Kaithal, Meerut, Hardoi, Patna, Goalpara and thence eastwards to east Assam. Another branch of the trough is running via Patna, Bhagalpur, Bankura, Digha and then to Northeast Bay of Bengal.

Thus, Monsoon remained vigorous over Himachal Pradesh and parts of Madhya Pradesh. Whereas, active Monsoon conditions were witnessed over Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, parts of Bihar, Assam, Manipur, Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the last 24 hours.

Major rainfall input came from Dharamsala which recorded 292 mm of rains, followed by Kangra at 277 mm, and Cherrapunji at 265 mm.

As on August 23, the countrywide cumulative rainfall deficiency continues to stand at -7%. Division wise, South Peninsula is rain surplus by 11%, Central India has witnessed normal rains. While, East & Northeast India is the highest rain deficient pocket at -28%, followed by Northwest India at -6%.

During the next 24 hours, active to vigorous Monsoon conditions will persist over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West and Central Uttar Pradesh, parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Northeast Madhya Pradesh and North Chhattisgarh. These areas would see moderate to heavy rains with isolated very heavy showers.

Normal Monsoon conditions will prevail over Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, East Uttar Pradesh, rest of Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, rest of Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka, parts of Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and South Gujarat that might witness light to moderate rainfall.

Rest of the country could see subdued Monsoon activities.
