Monsoon Forecast for Aug 23, 2017: Rain in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Sikkim, West Bengal

Southwest Monsoon remained vigorous over parts of Saurashtra.

Active Monsoon conditions were observed along the West Coast, South Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, North Tamil Nadu, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sub Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Whereas parts of Punjab and Haryana also recorded good Monsoon rains.

Major rain contribution came from Chandigarh that recorded 115 mm of rainfall, followed by Veraval 85 mm and Ambala 77 mm.

As on August 21, the cumulative countrywide rainfall remains deficient by 4%. As far as the regional distribution is concerned, Northwest India, Central and South India are rain deficient by 2%, 8% and 12%, respectively. Whereas, East and North East India are rain surplus by 3%.

At present, the axis of monsoon trough is passing through Centre of low, Ahmedabad, Jabalpur, Puri and then southeastwards towards east central Bay of Bengal.

During the next 24 hours, Monsoon will remain active to vigorous over south and coastal parts of Gujarat.

Live status of Lightning and thunder

Normal Monsoon conditions are likely over East Rajasthan, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand and northeastern states, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, South Konkan, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala. Monsoon will remain subdued over rest parts of the country except South Tamil Nadu and Northwest Rajasthan.
