Southwest Monsoon remained vigorous over parts of Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Vidarbha, Konkan and Goa, Gujarat and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. While it was active over Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, North Tamil Nadu, Gangetic West Bengal, North Coastal Odisha, Southwest Madhya Pradesh and Lakshadweep region.
Major rain contribution came from Matheran that recorded 148 mm of rainfall, followed by Ahmednagar at 127 mm and Mumbai 120 mm.
On August 20, the cumulative countrywide rainfall stands at -5%. As far as the regional distribution is concerned, East and Northeast India is the only rain surplus region by 3%. While, Northwest, Central and South India are rain deficient by 1%, 9% and 12%, respectively.
At present, the axis of Monsoon trough is passing through Nalia, Deesa, centre of low, Chandrapur, Kalingapatnam up to east central Bay of Bengal.

During the next 24 hours, active Monsoon conditions will give light to moderate rains with isolated heavy spells over Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka, South Coastal Odisha and adjoining North Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, Northeastern states, Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim will observe normal Monsoon.
