Monsoon Forecast for Aug 21, 2018: Very heavy Monsoon rains in Maharashtra, Telangana, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh

The axis of Monsoon trough is at present passing through Amritsar, Ambala, Kanpur, Badaun, Daltonganj, Jamshedpur and then towards Northeast Bay of Bengal.

As a consequence, Monsoon remained vigorous over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Telangana during last 24 hours. Meanwhile, active Monsoon conditions were witnessed over West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and pockets of Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Major rainfall contribution came from Khammam that recorded 207 mm of rain, followed by Bhadrachalam 147 mm and Nandigama 100 mm.

As on August 19, the countrywide cumulative rainfall deficiency continues to be stagnant at -8%. At the moment, South India is the only pocket that is rain surplus by 11%, while East & Northeast India is the highest rain deficient pocket at -28%, followed by Northwest India at -6% and Central India at -4%.

During next 24 hours, vigorous Monsoon conditions will prevail over Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and most parts of Maharashtra. These areas could see heavy to very heavy showers.

Active Monsoon conditions will also persist over Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan that would observe moderate with heavy spells in parts.
 
Meanwhile, normal Monsoon rains are expected over Gujarat, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, while it will remain subdued over the rest of the country.
