Monsoon Forecast for Aug 21, 2017: Rain in West Coast, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Northeast India

Southwest Monsoon remained vigorous over Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Telangana and West Coast.

Meanwhile, active Monsoon conditions were seen over South Jharkhand, North Odisha adjoining Gangetic West Bengal, North Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Normal Monsoon conditions were observed over rest parts of the country.

Major rain contribution came from Thane that recorded 109 mm of rainfall, followed by Bir 100 mm and Parbhani 97 mm.

As on August 19, the cumulative countrywide rainfall remains deficient by 5%. As far as the regional distribution is concerned, Northwest India, Central and South India are rain deficient by 1%, 10% and 14%, respectively.

Whereas, East and North East India are rain surplus by 4%

At present, the axis of monsoon trough is moving across Bikaner, Kota, Centre of low pressure over Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and thence east southeastwards to east central Bay of Bengal.

During the next 24 hours, Monsoon will remain vigorous over West Coast, and Madhya Maharashtra along with Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Active Monsoon conditions are expected over Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Northeast India, parts of Odisha, coastal parts of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Normal Monsoon conditions are expected over rest of the country.

Live status of Lightning and thunder

Monsoon will remain subdued over Rajasthan, South Tamil Nadu and central parts of Bihar.
