Monsoon Forecast for Aug 2, 2018: Heavy rain in parts of UP, MP and Chhattisgarh

The axis of monsoon trough continues to pass through Kapurthala, Chandigarh, Gorakhpur, Bhagalpur, Shantiniketan, Diamond Harbour and towards East-central Bay of Bengal. During the last 24 hours, Monsoon remained vigorous over central parts of Uttar Pradesh, North Odisha, West Bengal and Sikkim. Meanwhile, active Monsoon conditions were observed over Kerala, parts of Assam and Himachal Pradesh.

Major rainfall contribution came from Kolkata that recorded 107 mm of rain, followed by Bareilly at 103 mm and Lucknow 95 mm.

As on July 31, the countrywide cumulative rainfall is deficient by 6%. Division-wise, Central and South India are rainfall surplus by 5% and 1%. Meanwhile, Northwest and East & Northeast India are rain deficient by 1% and 27%, respectively.

During the next 24 hours, active to vigorous Monsoon conditions are expected over East Uttar Pradesh, parts of Northeast Madhya Pradesh, North Chhattisgarh resulting in moderate to heavy rains. Meanwhile, active Monsoon conditions will prevail over Bihar, West Bengal and Assam due to which light to moderate rains are expected.

Normal Monsoon rains are likely over Northeast India, Jharkhand, West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala.
