Southwest Monsoon remained vigorous over Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Meanwhile, active Monsoon conditions were seen over parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, West Assam, North Tamil Nadu Coast and Coastal Karnataka and Coastal Kerala.
Monsoon remained normal over Uttarakhand, remaining Northeast India, East Madhya Pradesh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Telangana.
Major rain contribution came from Kailashahar that recorded 153 mm of rainfall, followed by Paradip at 101 mm and Port Blair 94 mm of rain.
On August 17, the cumulative countrywide rainfall has dropped down to -5%. As far as the regional distribution is concerned, Northwest and East and Northeast India are rain surplus by 1% and 4% respectively. Whereas, Central and South India are rain deficient by 10% and 16%, respectively.

At present, the western arm of the axis of Monsoon trough is running close to the foothills of Himalayas and is likely to shift towards the plains of North India. While, the eastern arm of the axis is running across Patna, Bankura, Diamond Harbour towards East-central Bay.
During the next 24 hours Active Monsoon conditions are expected over Odisha, South Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh Coast, Telangana, Sub Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, West Assam, and parts of Vidarbha.
Live status of Lightning and thunder
Monsoon will remain normal over East Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Rayalaseema, Karnataka and Kerala. Light Monsoon showers will continue over Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, East Uttar Pradesh, remaining Northeast India, West Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu.
