Monsoon Forecast for Aug 15, 2018: Heavy Monsoon Rains In Odisha, Coastal Andhra, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala

The axis of Monsoon trough is presently passing through Sri Ganganagar, Hisar, Patiala, Delhi, Hamirpur, Daltonganj, Jamshedpur, across the center of low pressure area off West Bengal Coast towards East Central Bay of Bengal.

As a result, Monsoon remained vigorous over Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, parts of Odisha and Himachal Pradesh during the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, active Monsoon conditions were witnessed over Uttarakhand, Central Uttar Pradesh and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Major rainfall contribution came from Honavar that recorded 145 mm of rain, followed by Mandi 127 mm and Mahabaleshwar 117 mm.

As on August 13, the countrywide cumulative rainfall deficiency stood at -10%. At present, South India is the only pocket that is rain surplus by 2%, whereas East & Northeast India is the highest rain deficient pocket at -26%, followed by Northwest India at -4% and Central India at -7%.

During the next 24 hours, vigorous Monsoon conditions will prevail over Odisha and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. These areas could see moderate to heavy showers along with isolated very heavy rains.

Monsoon will remain active over parts of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, parts of Telangana, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala that might see light to moderate rainfall with few heavy spells.
 
Meanwhile, normal Monsoon rains are likely over Konkan & Goa, North & East Madhya Pradesh, many parts of Uttar Pradesh, parts of North Haryana and North Punjab, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, while it will remain subdued over the rest of the country.
