Monsoon Forecast for Aug 11, 2017: Rain in Uttarakhand, Assam, Kolkata, West Bengal

Southwest Monsoon remained vigorous over Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and North Odisha.

Active Monsoon conditions were seen over parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Southeast Rajasthan, North Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Normal Monsoon conditions persisted over parts of Telangana, Chhattisgarh, North Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, remaining parts of northeastern states and Gujarat.

Major rain contribution came from Pasighat that recorded 178 mm of rainfall, followed by Cherrapunji at 174 mm and Jalpaiguri at 129 mm of rain.

As on August 9, the cumulative countrywide rainfall continues to observe a rain deficit of 3%. As far as the regional distribution is concerned, Northwest India is rain surplus by 11%

Whereas, Central, South, East and Northeast India are rain deficient by 2%, 18% and 6%, respectively.

At present, the axis of Monsoon is passing through Ferozepur, Karnal, Fursatganj, Daltonganj, Digha and further towards Northeast Bay of Bengal.

During the next 24 hours, Monsoon will remain vigorous over Northeastern states, West Bengal and Sikkim.

Active Monsoon conditions are expected over Bihar, Jharkhand, east and Central Uttar Pradesh, North Odisha and North Chhattisgarh.

Meanwhile Normal Monsoon conditions are likely over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, parts of Marathwada, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Konkan and Goa, coastal and Interior Karnataka, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
