Depression in Bay nears, rain in Kolkata, West Bengal, Northeast

The deep depression over the Bay of Bengal has weakened into a depression, and moved further closer to the coast. This system is expected to move more north northeastwards along and off Odisha coast towards West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh coasts.

Further, this weather system will maintain its intensity during the next 24 hours and gradually weaken as its approaches the coast.

So, heavy rains are expected along the coastal districts of West Bengal, accompanied with squally winds. Kolkata could also witness varying intensity of rains during the two days. Sea conditions will be rough, so fishermen are advised to avoid venturing out in the sea.

Meanwhile, the southern Northeast states such as Tripura, and Mizoram will see fairly widespread rains with some heavy falls, moderate showers are anticipated over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Manipur. Scattered rains are also possible over Arunachal Pradesh.
