Northeast Monsoon is hammering Tamil Nadu including Chennai with hefty showers from the last three consecutive days. Though intensity during last 2 days was less than on Monday but showers were intense enough to keep Chennai to standstill.
On Wednesday, Minambakkam Observatory in Chennai recorded 41 mm of rain, while Nungambakkam settled with 24 mm. Other areas of Tamil Nadu that recorded good showers in last 24 hours were Palayamkottai that witnessed very heavy rain to the tune of 134 mm, Karaikal 58 mm, and Parangipettai 51 mm.
So far, over 7 people have been reported to be dead due to heavy rains. School and colleges also remain shut.
Further, weather conditions are conducive for good Monsoon rains to continue as the persisting cyclonic circulation over Southwest Bay of Bengal and Sri Lanka ha snow induced a low pressure area over same area.

With this, moderate to heavy spells will continue over Chennai and other coastal areas of Tamil Nadu during the next 24 hours as well. The intensity of rain will be much more over the south and central coast of Tamil Nadu. Places like Karaikal, Tuticorin, Palayamkottai, Nagapattinam, Parangipettai and Cuddalore are likely to witness heavy rains on November 2.
Live status of Lightning and thunder
We expect slight rise in rain intensity on November 3, which may again drop by November 4. Thus, we can say that on and off heavy rains will continue. These rains and thundershowers will be accompanied with moderate to strong winds and sea conditions will also be rough.
With this, people across the coastal areas will continue to face problems such as water logging, traffic jams and flash floods at several places.
