Chennai Rains 2017 Update: Rain intensity to reduce after 24 hours

Northeast Monsoon remained vigorous over Tamil Nadu. Chennai rain saga continues to lash the city. A trough is low is persisting over the Southwest Bay of Bengal and South Tamil Nadu Coast and a cyclonic circulation is also prevailing near Sri Lanka.

In wake of these combined weather systems, heavy rains occurred over the coastal districts of the state however Chennai recorded light showers only.

On Sunday, Chennai witnessed 13 mm of rain, Parangipettai 106 mm rain, Puducherry 102 mm, Karaikal 57 mm, Cuddalore 42 mm of rains.

Further, Chennai is likely to witness moderate showers during the next 24 hours, but one or two heavy showers cannot be ruled out. Other coastal stations of Tamil Nadu are likely to witness moderate to heavy rains in the next 24 hours also.

Thereafter, the intensity of these rains is anticipated to gradually reduce after November 7 as the trough of low and the cyclonic circulation is likely to shift further south. Though on and off light to very light rains are expected to continue showing up.

With the upcoming showers over Costal Tamil Nadu waterlogging may intensify and people would continue to battle traffic jams and may be flash floods at few places.
