In the past 24 hours, just light rain and thundershower was seen over Chennai. This could be attributed to the low pressure area which was over Southwest Bay of Bengal. This system has moved slightly west-northwestward nearer to the landmass.
Also, a trough extends from this system up to South Coastal Andhra Pradesh across Coastal Tamil Nadu. Moreover, southeasterly moist winds are blowing over the region.

Weathermen anticipate the low pressure to continue moving west-northwestward and the southeasterly winds to strengthen. Thus, light to moderate rain and thundershowers will continue over Chennai during the next 2 to 3 days.
The weather will continue to be humid with cloudy sky.During the same time period, south coastal parts of Tamil Nadu such as Nagapattinam, Karaikal, Pamban and Tondi will receive moderate to heavy showers.
However, interior parts of the state will get only light rain activity which will reduce the maximum temperatures.
