After a gap of four days Chennai rains have once again picked up pace. At present a well-marked low pressure area is over Southwest Bay of Bengal near Tamil Nadu coast.

In wake of this weather system Nungambakkam Observatory in Chennai witnessed 66 mm of rain whereas Minambakkam observatory has recorded 26 mm of rain. With hefty showers returning, schools in Chennai, Kancheepuram and Trivallur were declared closed to avoid any untoward incident.

Water logging has once again strangled the city which has led to traffic jams at several places. As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, light rain with one or two short spells of moderate rain in isolated pockets of Chennai will occur until late afternoon today.

However, the rain intensity may once again pick up pace during evening and night hours. We expect moderate rains with one or two heavy spells to continue until November 14 over Chennai, hence water logging will also increase over Chennai.

Thereafter the well-marked low pressure area will move towards Andhra Pradesh coast and the rain intensity will increase over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and will decrease over Chennai and North Coastal Tamil Nadu. However, rain will not stop completely as light rains will continue.
