Northeast Monsoon gave heavy rains with some isolated very heavy showers over the capital of Tamil Nadu in the first week of November. During this period, three digit rains lashed Chennai that led to water logging and traffic chaos at many places. Thereafter, dry weather started engulfing the city.
Chennai rains have again commenced but in light intensity during the past two days. In fact, the weather models are indicating that these rains are likely to increase in the next 24 hours.

All thanks to the low pressure area which is persisting over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining area. Besides this, an associated cyclonic circulation can be seen extending up to 7.6 km above sea level.
With the combined effect of these weather systems, the sky will remain overcast over Chennai that will be accompanied by moderate to heavy spells of rain and thundershowers.

Moreover, strong winds are expected with moderate lightning over the city of Chennai during the next 24 to 48 hours. Water logging and traffic jams may affect some parts of the city. So we advised people to exercise caution.
During this period, day maximums are likely to settle around 25°C-27°C, while night temperatures at 22°C-23°C. Humidity will remain on the higher side.
The city has already surpassed its monthly mean of 374.4 mm. Until date, it has recorded 383.8 mm of rainfall.
