21-06-2015 Monsoon Update: Skymet Weather

June 20, 2015 5:46 PM |

After two days of vigorous Monsoon activity, rain has reduced over Mumbai. Slight relief likely as rain will be sporadic on Sunday. The cyclonic circulation in the Arabian Sea could intensify into a low pressure area after 24 hours and gradually move westwards, away from the Indian coast. Therefore the intensity of rain will reduce along the West Coast. The Monsoon surge will reduce but we could still see the offshore trough running from south Gujarat to Kerala. This will continue to bring light to moderate showers.

The system in the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression. The system will move in a westward direction affecting Telangana, Vidharbha, northern parts of Andhra Pradesh, south Odisha and Chhattisgarh. We can expect heavy showers in these areas

Northeast will continue to receive only light to moderate rainfall. We have been reiterating that the weather system in the Bay of Bengal, has been drawing away all the moisture from the region.

The trough extending from the northwest Rajasthan to the well-marked low in the Bay of Bengal across Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh will bring scattered thundershowers along its path. Easterly winds are also increasing moisture over the Northern plains, due to the presence of a cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan. Tomorrow we can expect some light rain and thundershowers over the northern plains including Delhi and NCR.
