18 June, 2015 Monsoon Update: Skymet Weather

June 17, 2015 7:34 PM |

After a sluggish start, Southwest Monsoon gained strength and moved rapidly to cover most parts of Peninsular and Northeast India.
Monsoon remains active along the West Coast. Here we can see the off-shore trough persists along the Western Ghats.
In fact, Monsoon showers will increase over the area. We can expect vigorous Monsoon activity over coastal Karnataka, Konkan & Goa during next 2 to 3 days. Rest of Peninsular India, barring extreme south Tamil Nadu, will receive moderate rain and thundershowers. All thanks to the cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal, which could also strengthen into a low pressure area. This system will bring good showers over Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal as well.
There is another circulation developing in the Arabian Sea. Both the weather systems will enhance rainfall activity in Peninsular, Central and East India. They will help influence the progress of Monsoon over more parts of West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and even Bihar. These weather systems will also be instrumental in establishing the Monsoon trough.
Rainfall in Northeast India will be light to moderate as the cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal will draw away all the moisture from the region.
North India will not see much weather activity for next few days. But, we cannot rule out isolated thundery activity along the trough line on Thursday. Hills will remain cool and comfortable. Plains will see a rise in humidity levels and thus, afternoon hours could be sultry.
Temperatures will be under check in most parts of the country.
