17 August, 2015 Monsoon Update: Skymet Weather

August 16, 2015 7:00 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The country wide rainfall deficiency has risen up to 10%. With some good rains in Northeast, Tamil Nadu and the West Coast we don’t expect this figure to rise much.

The Western Disturbance is moving away from Jammu and Kashmir. The three hilly states will receive only light scattered rains tomorrow.

The Monsoon trough is gradually shifting northwards, closer to the foothills of the Himalayas. Tomorrow, it will be passing through northern parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, across the low pressure area, Bihar and then towards Assam. We can expect heavy rainfall over northern parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Assam.

There is a low pressure area lying over Northcentral Uttar Pradesh. A trough can be seen extending from this system up to Rayalseema. Thus, rainfall activity will increase over East Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Rayalseema.

The off-shore trough will bring scattered light to moderate rainfall over Kerala and Coastal Karnataka.

Light rainfall likely over Marathwada and Vidarbha. But, West Rajasthan and Kutch will remain dry.
