05 July, 2015 Monsoon Update: Skymet Weather

July 4, 2015 6:16 PM |

Southwest Monsoon is going through a weak phase. All thanks to the tropical storms in the western Pacific. At the moment, Monsoon is active only over Bihar, Jharkhand, Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Northeast India has also been experiencing active Monsoon conditions.

The cyclonic circulation over Pakistan and adjoining areas will bring Monsoon rain over the hills of North India. Uttarakhand will receive more rain than the other two states. We can expect rain and thundershowers along the foothills of Punjab and Haryana as well. Some weather activity likely in Delhi and NCR towards the later part of the day.

The western end of the Monsoon trough runs closer to the foothills of Himalayas. It seems to be joining the cyclonic circulation over Pakistan and the one over Bihar and adjoining areas. This weather system will bring heavy Monsoon showers over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Rain and thundershowers likely in rest of East India as well.

Another trough is extending from the cyclonic circulation over Bihar up to Tamil Nadu, across Jharkhand, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. Monsoon showers likely along the trough line.

The offshore trough is shrinking and now lies between Goa and Coastal Karnataka. It has become less marked and will bring some rain only over this area.

West, Central India and interiors of the Peninsula will be mainly dry over the weekend.

The coming spell of rain could bring down the temperatures in the Northern plains by Monday. Temperatures are also above normal in Tamil Nadu and interiors of Peninsular India. In rest of the country, temperatures will remain near normal levels.
