The state of Uttarakhand is likely to come up with inclement weather conditions on the weekend of 26th-27th September 2026. Heavy to very heavy rains are expected for the entire state, more intense on 26th September and more severe in the lower and middle hills. Both the subdivisions of the state, Kumaon and Garhwal, will be at equal risk of hazardous weather conditions. Even the Dudhatoli mountain range, hosting the hill towns of Chamoli district and serving as a bridge between the Garhwal and Kumaon Divisions, will be at greater risk of stormy weather conditions. The summer capital of the state, Bhararisain, with an elevation of about 5,800 feet, in Chamoli district, is likely to get battered by harsh weather conditions.

The remnant of the storm over the Bay of Bengal has reached Chhattisgarh and adjoining Madhya Pradesh as a depression. Also, a Western Disturbance is tracking eastward across Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Under the influence of the interaction between these two systems, treacherous weather conditions are expected over the lower and middle hills, along with the foothill towns of Dehradun, Rishikesh, Roorkee and Haridwar.

The tourist-attractive locations in the Kumaon Division, like Mukteshwar, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Nainital and Champawat, will witness the worst weather conditions. The Garhwal Division will be no better. As the Char Dhams of the state are likely to be closed shortly by mid-October, there could be a weekend rush of visitors to make it to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Hemkund Sahib and other places of worship in that region. The visitors are advised to restrict travel to these places on the weekend between 26th and 27th September 2026. The following long weekend between 2nd and 4th October will have clear weather conditions for most parts of the state.

On the approaching weekend, extremely heavy rains accompanied by severe lightning and thunderstorms will bear down on the entire state. There will be landslides, mudslides, rocks and stones rolling down the slopes, with every chance of many roads getting choked and blocked due to inclement weather. The chances of water bodies overflowing and the risk of flash floods will be a real-time threat. Exercise utmost caution.
