Most parts of Delhi received just a trickle of rainfall in the past 24 hours. The airport observatory Palam did observe one heavy shower measuring 5 mm of rainfall. The base station Safdarjung has recorded only traces of rainfall in the past five days. Similar conditions are likely today and tomorrow, with a change expected thereafter.

The monsoon trough is the main trigger for rainfall in Delhi during August. This feature is far to the south of Delhi and is presently passing through Bhuj, Deesa, Shahjapur, and extends further eastward. There is a cyclonic circulation over Saurashtra & Kutch and the adjoining Arabian Sea, which has dragged the trough far south of its normal position. There is a likelihood of the trough shifting northward, which may increase monsoon activity over and around the national capital.

The cyclonic circulation over Gujarat will move northward and weaken. The trough line will also shift along with it, passing through parts of South Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh tomorrow. While the circulation will fill up a day later over the same region, the monsoon trough will get an embedded circulation over Northeast Rajasthan and Northwest Madhya Pradesh. This circulation will persist for the next 3–4 days, helping keep the monsoon trough south of Delhi but in close proximity.

Delhi/NCR is likely to have a spell of moderate intermittent showers between 22nd and 26th August 2025. These showers could be more intense on the 23rd, 24th, and 25th August, with Sunday, 24th August 2025, expected to be the wettest. Delhi has already amassed 259.7 mm of rainfall so far, against the monthly normal of 226.8 mm. June and July had also exceeded their monthly normals by 45% and 24%, respectively. The approaching wet spell may take Delhi closer to the 300 mm mark. Weather conditions are expected to turn pleasant, with the daytime temperature dipping to around 31°C and the minimum hovering in the low twenties over the weekend.
