During the last 48 hours, short spell of patchy rains were experienced in Delhi and adjoining region. While Palam Observatory recorded 13 mm of rains, Safdarjung recorded only 0.4 mm rains in the last 24 hours. Although a slight fall in day temperatures was experienced, humidity levels have increased over the region.
These rains have been occurring due to the presence of a Western Disturbance over Northeast parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Also, the Western end of Axis of Monsoon Trough is South of Delhi and passes across Central parts of Rajasthan.
The Western Disturbance is moving away, however, due to the remnants of this system, short spells of light rain will be affecting isolated places in Delhi and NCR during the next 24 to 36 hours. Thereafter, the rain intensity would be increasing as another Western Disturbance would be approaching.
Due to the approaching of this Western Disturbance, the western end of Monsoon Trough is expected to shift northwards close to Delhi. Hence, rainfall activity is expected to increase from August 5 to 7.
During the next 24 hours, the temperatures would see an increasing pattern. Due to the presence of high humidity, uneasiness would continue to prevail.
Thereafter, a significant fall in temperatures is expected due to the occurrence of these rainfall activities.
As on August 3, Delhi is running rain deficient by -28%. As more rains are expected just around the corner, this deficiency is likely to recover.
