Cyclone Phailin is a mere 100 kms away from the Odisha coast hurtling at a destructive speed of approximately 250 kmph. According to the latest information from our met department, it is all set to hit between Paradip and Kalingapatnam with its epicentre at Gopalpur, in few hours from now at around 8 p.m.

At landfall, the windspeed will dissipate a little to 220 kmph and cause waves as high as 3 meters. The low-lying areas are expected to be completely flooded and there is potential threat from flying debris as well.

Fortunately Phailin did not get enough time to intensify into a super cyclone or a cyclone of category 5. However, the state administration is not underestimating the destructive power of Phailin and along with the Indian armed forces, is gearing up to battle this monster. Heavy evacuation process is underway. The countdown to cyclone Phailin has now begun and the state is prepared for unprecedented disaster.
