Rain in south India will continue during the next few days as the low pressure area in the southwest Bay of Bengal is expected to enter the land to facilitate easterly winds. This will lead to setting in of northeast monsoon in south India. Moist easterly winds will continue to blow over southeast coast over north Tamil Nadu, south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka.
Good rain and thundershower is expected at many places. Heavy rain at a few places is likely over Guntur, Krishna, Kurnool, Nalgonda and Prakasam districts of Andhra Pradesh during the next 24 hours. In the past 24 hours, Kavali received 129 mm of rain, Nellore 92 mm while Srikakulam and Ongole received 74 mm of rain.
In Tamil Nadu, Chennai witnessed 25.9 mm of rain while Tiruchirapalli recorded 47.4 mm. Northeast monsoon gives 48% percent of annual rain in Tamil Nadu.
Kerala, south interior Karnataka and coastal Karnataka will also receive rain during the next two days.
Rain starts increasing in coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu around mid October and is considered as setting in of the winter monsoon or northeast monsoon as winds per-dominantly become as northeasterly picking up moisture from the Bay of Bengal.
Meanwhile, sky will remain cloudy that will keep the temperatures below normal by about 5 degrees at some places. But night temperature will remain normal with high humidity levels.
