Rain to reduce in Mumbai in next 24 hours

July 26, 2013 12:21 PM |

Mumbaikars will finally breathe a sigh of relief as rain in the city is expected to reduce. Weather analysts at Skymet have predicted moderate rain of up to 30mm for next 24 hours after which rain will reduce to a large extent in the city bringing normal life back on track.

Intermittent heavy rain for the last one week had severely disrupted day to day life in the city of dreams. After receiving over 70mm of rain on Saturday, Mumbai recorded 200 plus rain on Tuesday which created grave problems of waterlogging and traffic jams.  The heavy downpour coupled with high tides had flooded almost entire city with low lying areas being the worst hit. Local train services that are considered to be the lifeline of Mumbai were also affected. And amidst all this, daily commuters especially the office goers and school children were the worst hit who had to wade through waterlogged roads and heavy traffic jams.

Notably, Mumbai has already received more than 70% of its annual average rainfall in both south Mumbai and suburbs due to the heavy rain. And with over two months for the monsoon to be over, it seems that rainfall would exceed the normal figures in the city.
