Monsoon Forecast for July 7, 2018: Heavy Monsoon rain in Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka

The axis of Monsoon trough is currently passing through Ferozpur, Karnal, Bareilly, Bahraich, Hazaribagh and Balasore towards East-Central Bay of Bengal.

In the last 24 hours, Southwest Monsoon remained vigorous over South Konkan and Goa and North Coastal Karnataka giving heavy to very heavy rains over the region.

Mahabaleshwar gave the maximum contribution with three-digit rains to the tune of 201 mm, followed by Panjim at 166 mm and Vengurla at 100 mm.

However, no change was seen in the countrywide Monsoon rainfall deficiency that continues to be at - 7% on July 5. Region -wise, South and Northwest India are rain surplus by 5% and 12%, respectively. Meanwhile, East & Northeast along with Central India remain deficient by 21% and 9%, respectively.

During the next 24 hours, active to vigorous Monsoon conditions are likely over, South Konkan and Goa and Coastal Karnataka, resulting in moderate to heavy showers over these areas.

Monsoon will remain active bringing moderate showers with isolated heavy spells over South Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, parts of Chhattisgarh and some parts of Telangana.

Meanwhile, West Bengal, Odisha, Sikkim, Northeast India, remaining parts of Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, North Interior Karnataka and Kerala are likely to witness normal Monsoon conditions. We can expect light to moderate rains over these areas.
