The southward shift of axis of monsoon trough from the foothills of Himalayas will significantly reduce the amount of rain in Tarai region of east Uttar Pradesh, north Bihar, sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim and in the northeast over Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Rain will now occur over Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura during the next two days.
The southwesterly monsoon winds from the Arabian Sea will also reach northwest region of the country but as they fall weak after reaching the plains, rain will remain light and scattered in the region.
These winds are expected to increase in intensity along the Maharashtra coast and bring moderate rain to the commercial capital Mumbai in next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has withdrawn from west Rajasthan and the withdrawal line passes through Ganganagar, Bikaner and Barmer.
