Heavy rains lashing Chennai and the northern districts of the Tamil Nadu since Tuesday has decreased and will fade out in the next 72 hours, bringing a sigh of relief to the people.
A low pressure area over coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining Bay of Bengal brought in heavy thunder showers, leaving low-lying areas and subways inundated. Traffic came to a halt and commuters were stranded for hours in many parts of the city due to water logging.
Educational institutions in Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts have been affected as quarterly exams had to be postponed. Fishermen living along the Andhra Pradesh coast have been advised against fishing in the sea.
