Northeast monsoon rain was received at many places over Andhra Pradesh and coastal belt of Odisha in the last 24 hours. The well-marked low pressure area is moving very slow and lies over coastal Andhra Pradesh off west Bay of Bengal.
Under the aegis of this weather system heavy rains are expected at a few places in Andhra Pradesh, Ralayaseema and coastal Odisha. Rain may also occur over Kerala, south interior Karnataka, north interior Karnataka in the next two days. Weather in south India will be cloudy with normal night temperatures.
In the last 24 hours, Gopalpur in Odisha recorded 107mm of rain while Balasore received 73.7 mm and capital Bhubaneswar recorded 60.3 mm. Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh received 117.8 mm of rain while Visakhapatnam recorded 88.5 mm. Tirupati and Nellore recorded 88.6 mm and 56.2 mm of rain respectively in the last 24 hours.
Movement of the weather system
The well marked low pressure area was earlier expected to move westwards but it may recurve to advance in a north-northeastward direction. Next 24 to 48 hours will be crucial as far as direction or path of this weather system is concerned. But It is currently lying in a region ( southern Peninsula) where enough moisture feed will be available from both the seas. It will continue to give ample rain in south India and coastal Odisha.
