Cold wave conditions prevailed over the Northern Plains almost throughout the week, leading to single digit minimum temperatures. Snowfall in the Northern Hills caused cold day and cold wave situation over the region. As accurately predicted by Skymet, the Northeast Monsoon was subdued the previous week, leading to deficit rains.
Weather activity to be mostly confined to South and Central India
Weather activity in the coming week will be mostly confined to the Southern and the Central parts of the country. Unseasonal weather activity will be experienced in Central India, starting from Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra and continue to Chhattisgarh and Odisha, extending all the way to West Bengal. Unseasonal rains will be recorded over Mumbai in the first half of the week, especially on the 24th and the 25th of December.
We are approaching the fag end of the Northeast Monsoon this week. Rainy spells will be experienced throughout the week in the South Peninsula. Whilst the rainfall activity will be more pronounced in Tamil Nadu in the first half of the week, Karnataka, Kerala, and Telangana will receive more rains in the second half. Consequently, Chennai will experience more active rainfall conditions in the first half of the week, which will become significantly milder in the second half.
Like last week, weather activity in the Northeast will be confined to Arunachal Pradesh and Upper Assam. Minimum temperatures will dip to single digits for the first time this year, especially in the Assam valley.
Cold wave conditions will persist over the Northern Plains and consequently single-digit minimum temperatures are likely to continue. However, little weather activity is expected over the region this week. In the absence of any active Western Disturbance, weather activity in the Northern Hills will also be limited. Delhi will continue to experience foggy mornings and cold wave conditions.
