Uttar Pradesh rain

Both the Northeast Monsoon and the pan-India post-Monsoon season concluded last week on the 31st. The post-Monsoon country-wide cumulative surplus stands at 29%. All of the five subdivisions of the Northeast Monsoon recorded normal or above normal rains. In the second half of the previous week, the prolonged cold day and cold wave conditions that had gripped the Northern Hills finally abated. As predicted by Skymet, unseasonal rains accompanied by hailstorms lashed a few places in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal and the entirety of North East India experienced wet spells between 2nd and 4th January. Telangana recorded some untimely rains, ranging from moderate to heavy, in the past week. In fact, the rains in Hyderabad broke a fifteen year old record for this time of the year.

UNSEASONAL WEATHER ACTIVITY IN CENTRAL INDIA, COLD DAY AND COLD WAVE CONDITIONS IN NORTH INDIA

A fresh Western Disturbance which arrived on 5th January will affect the weather of North India on 6th,7th, 8th and even on 9th at some places. While the Northern Hills will experience heavy snowfall and rain at places, the Northern Plains will observe rains, accompanied by thundershower and hailstorm at places. This will possibly result in cold day conditions over the region. In the wake of this, temperature will dip below 5o across many places in Northern Plains.

Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh will once again observe unseasonal weather activity, especially in the first two days of the week, which will consequently lead to a dip in temperatures. Gujarat is to remain dry, but will experience a significant drop in night temperature.

Weather activity will be relatively less active in East and Northeast India this week. Bihar and Jharkhand will experience some light rains on 8th January. Arunachal Pradesh and Upper Assam will record light to moderate rains in the first half of the week.

In the wake of the withdrawal of the Northeast Monsoon, only light rains will be experienced over the South Peninsula in the first two days of the week which will eventually clear off from the region. Chennai will record light rains on January 7th and 8th and observe partly cloudy skies.

RAINS EXPECTED OVER DELHI NCR, AIR QUALITY TO IMPROVE

Delhi NCR is likely to experience rain and thundershower activity January 6, 7, and 8. The weather activity will peak on the January 7th and result in cold.
