We have all seen the sizlling rain song between Raj Kapoor and Nargis in ‘Shree 420’ and Sridevi dancing in the rain for Mr. India (Anil Kapoor) which made history by staying on the charts for months and years.
We have also seen those typical Bollywood romantic movie scenes in the rain where Amir kisses Karisma Kapoor in the evergreen ‘Pardesi Pardesi’ song and Shahrukh hugs the drenched, Kajol in Kuch Kuch Hota hai. But what about feature films on rain, especially for those grey and cloudy days when you want to get cozy with your love, watch a movie and spend a romantic moment?
Here’s a list of some intense yet cocky rain movies you might never knew about. Don’t be surprised that the names of these movies are anything but creative!
Rain – A musical experience for all music lovers. Watch it with a non-judgmental mind so you don’t make the mistake of comparing it to Sound of Music or the Moulin Rouge. Rain is an average movie with some sensible background score and not so unique dialogues. The story is of an identity crisis of a woman who was raised in an Afro-America family. The movie was released in 2007 and was directed by Craig DiBona and stars Brooklyn Sudano, Robert Loggia and Faye Dunaway.
Rain – Rain again! Yes, this one is also called Rain. Made in 2008 and directed by Maria Govan is a one and a half hour experience of intense emotions. High on drama, the film is truly unique as it is entirely shot by the citizens of Bahamas. The story revolves around the protagonist ‘Rain’ who was abandoned by her mother when she was a toddler. Rain gives up her quiet life on Ragged Island to explore the life of the big cities only to realize she doesn’t belong there.
Are you a fan of Mark Wahlberg, here is a list of some of the best movies of Mark Wahlberg.
Rain – Its rain once again! But this time it isn’t a drama on identity crisis but a slow romantic movie based on the life of two strangers who meet in the traffic on a rainy day. It is raining in Buenos Aires and amid heavy rain and traffic; Roberto takes a lift from Alma in her car. While he's wet and tired of broken dreams, Alma has just had a painful break up. Roberto promises to leave the car as soon as the rain ceases. That night was something different for both of them. There's something new to find in the depth of their hearts.
Rain – Didn’t have to guess the name this time…did you? This Rain is an old classic 1923 South Seas drama directed by Lewis Milestone. The movie is based on a short story called ‘Miss Thompson’, later retitled as ‘Rain’. The story is of morals. In the journey to transform a prostitute, done by Joan Crawford, missionary Walter Huston’s morals start decaying. ‘Rain’ was not well received – either critically or financially and the bold story (religious hypocrisy being its main theme), caught Depression-era audiences off guard. But definitely a good watch for today’s audience.
Rain – This one is the best! Not a Hollywood movie, this time we’d like to draw your attention to a Bollywood movie called Rain. This 2005 movie is an erotic thriller of a blind novelist who lives alone, has a mysterious life and has a serious rain phobia. Probably this is why the movie is named, ‘Rain, The Terror Within’. One day she is visited by a reporter and her fan who then becomes her confidant. But it is soon revealed that the confidant was once the cause of all the misery in this girl’s life. He turns out to be the one who raped her years back, though now, the girl has already fallen in love with him. The film stars, Himanshu Malik in the lead, apart from Meghna Naidu, whose essaying the role of the protagonist. ‘Rain, The Terror Within’, directed by Vinod Bachchan is preposterously funny. When the movie released it made not just the mumbaikars but everyone who saw it, scared of both rains and of Meghna Naidu! This is a must watch film for some fun and laughter.
