Now that the festival of Holi is almost here, time is ripe for a discussion on some of the most popular Bollywood Holi songs. Over the years, the film industry has done extremely well in capturing the magic of Holi celebrations. From upbeat and peppy compositions to playful choreography and colorful sets, Bollywood songs are more than fulfilling when it comes to the Holi experience. The catchy rhythm, the meaningful lyrics, the romantic duo of Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha, and the colorful direction, all come together to make one amazing Holi song.

Holi Ke Din, Sholay (1975)


The movie Sholay is remembered for a number of performances and this particular song is surely one of them. Holi Ke Din features an energetic performance by Dharmendra and Hema Malini. The foot tapping number is further enriched by a sea of colors floating in the backdrop.

Holi Khele Raghuveera, Baghban  (2003)


Holi Khele Raghuveera from Baghban deserves a spot in the list of popular Bollywood Holi numbers. While the movie had a serious edge to it, this particular song saw the age-old beauty Hema Malini and the evergreen Big B splashing colors and sharing the joy on a peppy number. The song is a lyrical beauty as well and is always played on Holi get-togethers.

Aaj Na Chhodenge, Kati Patang (1970)


The famous Holi song that portrays the timeless chemistry between Rajesh Khanna and Asha Parekh. The song radiates the essence of Holi with clouds of colours blurring the background, and the mischievous Holi mood being clearly reflected in the lyrics.

Soni Soni, Mohabbatein (2000)


A star-studded Holi song from the romantic flick Mohabbatein with Shahrukh Khan, Uday Chopra, Jimmy Shergill, Kim Sharma, Shamita Shetty, and others dancing to the peppy tunes of the song. This particular Holi song was in fact one of the first new-age Holi numbers. It remains popular till date.

Dekho Ayi Holi, Mangal Pandey: The Rising (2005) 


Dekho Ayi Holi features Aamir Khan, Rani Mukherjee, and Ammesha Patel dancing to the tunes of an AR Rahman classic. Moreover, Aamir Khan has also added vocals for the song which has been sung by Udit Narayan. The song is choreographed in a pre-independence village set-up with folk dance moves dominating the frame. The energy level is high, the synchronization is messy but natural, and characters can be seen throwing colors at each other.

Do Me A Favor, Let's Play Holi, Waqt: The Race Against Time (2005)


Do Me A Favor, Let's Play Holi from the movie Waqt is an all-time favorite when it comes to popular Bollywood Holi songs. The composition is groovy, Anu Malik has sung the song with passion, and Akshay Khanna along with Priyanka Chopra have done justice to the number with their in-sync dancing and alive expressions. The colorful atmosphere with a naughty bit of choreography makes it one of the most preferred Holi numbers, especially among the youth.

Balam Pichkari, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013)


Balam Pichkari is an extremely popular Holi song from the 2013 blockbuster Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. The song is rich on colours and packs a mix choreographic inputs. There are candid moments and then there are properly synchronized sequences. The cinematography is also commendable as the playful mischief and gleeful chaos totally illustrate the magic of every Holi celebration.

Chhan Ke Mohalla, Action Replayy (2010)


Chhan Ke Mohalla is surely one of the most well choreographed Holi songs coming out of the Bollywood in recent time. The beautiful Aishwarya Rai occupies most of the screen space and rightly so. Moreover, a classy Neha Dhupia and others too shake a leg as the song is set in the backdrop of colorful buildings. White costumes turn colorful as the song progresses and the chaotic charm of Holi can be felt by the time the song finishes.

Lahu Munh Lag Gaya, Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela (2013)


Lahu Munh Lag Gaya from Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela is nothing short of a visual treat. The song relies heavily on the chemistry between Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. The song takes place in the backdrop of a Gujarati set-up with folk dance moves bringing more to the ongoing colorful festivities.
