Ride with aplomb this winter

Why should girls not have fun? If you have the biker’s spirit, regardless of your sexual constitution, I’m sure you will be tempted to ride all year long, even throughout the bone-chilling months of winter.

Unlike a car or any other four-wheeler, driving a motorcycle has a volley of limitations and it is a task that has to be taken with the utmost caution. However, this shouldn't be a deterrent for women bikers because few safety measures are all you need to keep your biker’s spirit alive. Make your ride an exciting experience and avoid trouble down the road by following the below mentioned norms.

Warm up!

As generally perceived, it isn’t a herculean task to stay warm while winter biking if you are well equipped with warm waterproof boots, warm gloves, earmuffs, skull cap underneath your helmet and a long scarf to wrap your neck and face.

Gear up!

It is advisable to take your friends out for a ride only if you are an experienced rider because you don’t want to invite unnecessary trouble. It takes time to adjust to the passenger's weight, so take your time and drive at a slow speed before revving up the engine. Most importantly, make sure you are well prepared to battle the wind, dust, dirt, rain, insects, debris and the winter chill. Helmet, eye protection, boots and gloves are all important to protect you against injury in case of an accident. Helmet will not ruin your hairstyles and even if it does, you can always carry a comb in your usually large handbag.

You are now warm and toasty to explore the roads but what about taking a closer look at your scooter?

Poise it up!

Remember that your scooty has two brakes; operate the front one by the right hand and the rear by your right foot. Be in control of your bike, even in heavy traffic, with the correct body posture. All you need is self-assurance, self-confidence and right amount of attitude to keep aside every kind of skepticism.

Smarten up!

Avoid other drivers' blind spots by using your headlight and be aware of the current road conditions. Also make sure that you and your vehicle are both properly insured.Get your bike checked regularly and ensure that tyre’s suspension and controls are in proper working conditions before hitting the road.

Whether you prefer the pillion or want your hands on the accelerator, there are abundant options to choose from. Needless to reiterate since you already heard it numerous times- do not drink and ride. Now that you know it all, take an initiative to raise awareness on safe riding among young women.
