Cometh February and the Haryana Tourism Department unfolds a joyful and fulfilled ride to the annual Surajkund Mela. Every Delhiite, who is a culture and food enthusiast, eagerly waits for February with baited breath. As it is the month for the annual Surajkund International Crafts Mela.
The Surajkund Mela held in Faridabad, Haryana is a cultural roller coaster ride. The mela or fair dates back to the year 1987 and is celebrated amidst perfect weather conditions. It is neither too cold nor hot in Delhi-NCR at this point of time.
Once here, you will be welcomed by people grooving on the beats of pleasing folk music, gorging on an array of street foods or busy bargaining for bangles.
Surajkund Mela 2016 is based on Telangana theme this year. Surajkund could remind the Delhiites of Dilli Haat. But of course, you could call it the “grand daddy” of Dilli Haat in terms of its opulence, size and variety. However, only for a couple of weeks.

Besides dance performances, cultural events and poetry, you will come across the finest arts and crafts from various regions across India and the world.
In the image above, you could see ethnic ware at the Chhattisgarh stall. These are brass craft called Dhokra. Uday Ram Jhara from Raigarh has returned to Surajkund with his collection after five years. Find them at stall no. 944. Price starts from Rs. 50 onwards.

Every year, the Haryana Tourism Department showcases products at the fair which capture a visitors’ heart. The sheer rural aura adds to the appeal.
Here one can witness some great work including paintings, pottery, textiles, stonework, ivory work, terracotta and many more. Everything together brings out the ethereal colors of India. Moreover, the rural background serves as a podium for people to enjoy the folk dances.
