Darjeeling is a true paradise on Earth and the best seasons to visit the town are Spring, which is short lived from March to April; and Autumn, which lasts from September to November.
During autumn, the temperature here remains pleasantly cool and the sky is usually clear. The winter season, from December until February, is usually very cold and chilly making it difficult for tourists to enjoy its beauty to the fullest. Autumn is by far the best time to plan a trip to this place.
The weather in Darjeeling is however, very unpredictable. You might enjoy a perfectly settled and beautiful weather at one instance, but soon cloud or fog rising from the deep humid valleys can mar all your hopes. You can simultaneously visualize flakes of cloud in the sky above and some below at the valley level.
Darj, as locally referred to, has also been the backdrop of many stories in Bollywood. This popular hill station opened her arms to celluloid since Rajesh Khanna drove down in his jeep singing Mere Sapno Ki Rani Kab Aayegi Tu for Sharmila Tagore, adjacent the meandering route of the toy train. The present political turmoil culminating from the Gorkhaland conundrum has done much damage to its reputation as a tourist destination.
The best places to visit in this hill station include Peace Pagoda, Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, Mahakal Temple and Lloyd Botanical Garden. The heart of Darjeeling, Chowrasta, is the perfect place to spend leisurely evenings and mornings. Here you can escape the hustle bustle of the area, sit back, unwind yourself after a long day of sightseeing, eat, sip hot teas and watch the locals enjoying.
The on-going political disturbance has affected tourism in the region to some extent but Darjeeling still hasn’t lost its sense of belonging and warmth.
