Keep yourself warm in winter without bulking up

September 26, 2013 8:02 PM |
“So quiet and peaceful
Tranquil and blissful
There's a kind of magic in the air
What a truly magnificent view
A breath-taking scene….”

Just like this song, A Winter's Tale from the album Made in Heaven says, winter really can be the most wonderful time of the year. But you might lose the fun quotient if you are rendered cold and lifeless. With winter around the corner, prepare yourself to stay warm even in the coldest of climates and enjoy fresh snow and joys of winter.

Now, when there is still ample of time left for winters, fix all the cracks in the doors and window panes. To prevent cold air from blowing inside your house, ensure that the rubber strip at the base of your door is nice and tight. Don’t wait for the eleventh hour to get your heaters checked and repaired if required.

Keep yourself warm without bulking up

  • Increase the intake of warm foods and beverages such as delectable soups, hot chocolate, tea and coffee. They are definitely a part of this fun season. Protein and carbs also keep your body warm. Porridge with hot milk for breakfast is a pretty good bargain as well.
  • Take hot baths to relax your muscles after a stressful day at work. Make your evening bath rejuvenating with some aromatic oils, candles and soothing music. However, make sure to dry off well afterwards.
  • Use a hot water bottle to keep yourself warm while lazing around in the bed under the wraps, sitting at your desk or watching television. This helps in saving on electricity bills as well.
  • Invest in some heavy curtains this winter as it helps to retain the warmth indoors and prevents draughts of cool air from coming in. Alternatively, you can also fit thermal linings to your curtains.
  • It’s not a bad idea to get a keyhole cover to keep the draught out in cold weather.

Be smart with layering

Go for layering not only to be trendy but also to stay warm as layering prevents exposure and helps to retain body heat. Thermals go a long way during winters as they fit easily under everyday clothing, including jeans and shirts. You can also bundle up with a fleece or a woollen sweater for extra warmth.
