When the temperature dips below 5°C, you may want to give running a miss. But guys, besides being a beautiful experience, jogging or walking on a winter morning is great way to soak up some of the abundantly available Vitamin D.

However, leaving behind the cozy bed and venturing out in the freezing weather may be uncomfortable.

We bring to you options that will cover you from head to toe.  And believe us; a little investment in proper attire will take you a long way during the season of binge eating.

Base Layer

The key to staying warm during winter workouts would be layering. When working out in winter, it is important that you begin with the base layer.  You can choose attire made from wicking fabric that absorbs moisture and helps you keep dry and warm. Go for an outfit that is odor resistance and is durable enough to last for a long time.

Middle Layer

The insulating layer helps in trapping warm air in some of these really cold mornings. This layer should be loose enough so that it can easily trap air between layers but make sure that you do not end up buying something heavy that your movement is restricted. Get something comfortable that gives you enough range of motion during your workout.

Tights

Tights are almost just like your base layer. Some of these tights come with extra features including wind resistance etc. With the help of these tights, you can go for a long jog even when the mercury falls way down. The catch to finding the right kind of tights is all about finding the right fabric, cut, lining and obviously a great fit.

Head Gear

When the temperature falls, it is important to cover your head during your long jogs. The philosophy is to cover as much as you can so that the body heat does not escape from your head. All you need to do is ensure that you keep your head warm.

Gloves

It is important to keep your hands covered during your workout session. Go for gloves that are not too bulky but keep you warm and comfortable. One thing that you need to keep in mind is that mittens are warmer than gloves. If you face difficulty in changing the song on your phone, some of these gloves come with touch screen compatibility feature as well!

Outer layer/Jackets

The outer layer functions as a shell to keep chilly winds at bay. This layer should be water resistant but at the same time should enable excessive moisture and heat to escape easily from the layers underneath your outer layer.

Socks

Socks can get tricky. You definitely want something warm enough that keeps out the cold and prevent frostbitten toes but not too warm that your feet turn into sweatboxes. Also, you need something which isn't too bulky to cram into your shoe. Go for wool socks that are light and can keep your happy feet warm.

Shoes

There are two things that you need to consider when looking for workout winter shoes. Firstly, ensure that your shoes have enough traction that will save you from slipping on icy surfaces, if any. Secondly, go for a fabric that is water resistant for slushy conditions. Not to forget, buy shoes that fit you.

If you have successfully scored the right workout gear you will stay warm on your winter runs and “it's freezing outside” excuse wouldn't stand a chance. So go ahead and burn those few extra pounds that you put on during the holiday season.
