Monsoon comes as a much awaited relief from the sultry summer heat. With the heat subsiding, people generally tend to forget one of the most crucial elements in their skin care toolbox. Sunscreen protects the skin from the harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun. Even when the sun plays tango with the rains, it is essential to wear sunscreen. The UV rays are present regardless of whether the sun is visible or not and can also penetrate through clouds and window panes.

Living in a tropical country, it is essential to be mindful of the damage caused by the sun's ultraviolet radiation.Excessive exposure to the sunlight increases production of a pigment called melanin. You might be naturally photosensitive and tend to get sun burnt, even upon shorter exposure to the sun.

It is important to be especially mindful of the sun, if you are on certain drugs like antibiotics or suffering from conditions such as porphyria and lupus, characterized by rashes and blisters. Overtime exposure can cause tanning and eventually benign or non-cancerous tumors. Do not fret; keep in mind the following factors:

  • Use a sunscreen with an adequate sun protection factor (SPF).
  • Suitably with SPF of over 15 for children and dark skinned adults.
  • For the ones with a lighter skin tone, a sun-block with SPF 30 should work well.
  • Reapply if you just got drenched in a heavy downpour.

Monsoon is a time to cut it short on clothes, and flaunt your colorful light fabrics. But you definitely wouldn’t want unpleasant rashes all over your body to spoil the fun. Also it is advisable to keep it minimal when it comes to make-up. A washed-off make-up due to the rains would leave you behind with a complete messy look. So it’s a good time to invest in some waterproof make-up. Various leading brands like Revlon Though monsoon is a season that everyone looks out for, it comes with its own pros and cons.
