Golf was started in the early 15th century in Scotland and became so popular that it had to be banned by King James II in 1457, as people started to neglect other sports. Today, golf is played all over the world, but not everywhere the weather is as cool as it is in Scotland or London. Sports brands introduce special golf gears in India, considering the crazy hot and humid weather.

And no wonder, playing a round of golf during extremely hot weather poses several challenges. Keeping it simple is the key. Fashion experts advice to keep it cool and comfy when it’s humid. You don’t always have to restrict the swing and adhere to the dress code of the course you are playing. Here is a list of clothing options you could choose from.

“Right Cotton”- Who says cotton is always the best fabric for hot weather. It is not about wearing cotton but wearing the right cotton that saves you from the heat. While cotton may feel comfy on the skin, sweat will make a cotton shirt feel heavy. If you can’t give up your favorite cotton, try buying brands that are specifically labeled as ‘moisture-wicking’. One of such ‘moisture-wicking’ cotton golf shirt has been labeled as ‘Cotton Charged’ by a U.S brand. These shirts absorb much more and dry much faster than a regular cotton shirt. So next time you go shop for your golf gear, remember to look for labels and tags carefully.

Loosen up! - Are you one of those who stick to strict dress codes for your game? Loosen up! On a hot and muggy day, you can always get away with shorts, without following the dress code rules. If you really want to remember rules, remember these – a) Wear loose shorts to promote air circulation. b) Choose a lighter color. Not a boring white, but a soothing peach or light blue. c) Avoid heavy cotton pants to prevent the irritating bunch up at the knees and mid-leg which happens when your legs sweat.  Look for golf pants that are specially articulated at the knees, easily available at indiangolfshop.com. Also, do not forget your under skin because now you have breathable underwears too! These are also made from moisture-wicking fabric or breathable wool which will keep your skin beneath dry and cool.

Because women too play golf – Sweep the men off their feet by wearing those sexy golf skirts rather than the shorts or long pants, especially on a hot day. Consider a golfing ‘skort’- a pair of shorts underneath a skirt. These come in many colors and plaid patterns.

Dump the manly caps and switch to a stylish hat to prevent over exposure to the sun. Like other golf apparel, hats also come with moisture-wicking capabilities. Some are even made with technologies such as Rayosan, a process that makes the fabric of the hat reflect the sun's harmful UVA and UVB rays. Next time you girls head out for golf, wear a ‘wind raven sun hat’ and give the boys a tough game!
