Alluring Coorg: An All Season Hill Station You Must Visit

Coorg (or Kodagu) is an administrative district situated in Karnataka. It lies cuddled in the Western Ghats of south western Karnataka. Coorg is widely famous for its green hills, far spread plantations, a famous monastery, wildlife, view points, temples, and the famous Dubare Elephant camp. Coorg attracts tourists from all parts of the world and is mostly a stop-by destination as it lies close to the Karnataka-Kerala border.

Coorg maintains an average temperature of 15°C, ranging from 11 to 28°C, with April and May maintaining the highest temperatures. During summers, the region is mostly hot but the temperature does not exceed 34°C. In Monsoon, between the months of June and August, Coorg experiences heavy rainfall adding to the scenic beauty of the hill-station with a generous pinch of monsoon fragrance enwrapping the region. Winters in Coorg usually begin from December and last till February. The winter season attracts a lot of tourists as the weather remains cool and pleasant.

Coorg has a lot to offer in terms of tourism. The Abbey Falls, located about 7 km away from Madikeri, offer a picturesque sight to its visitors. The crystal clear water combined with the enchanting flora surrounding the location make the spot a must visit location while in Coorg. Apart from this, the Dubare Elephant Camp is another popular tourist attraction, offering a unique experience where visitors get a close-up experience with elephants. Besides this, the Namdroling Nyingmapa Monastery is another major tourist attraction. The monastery is famous for its grandeur architecture and engrossing use of scale and colors. The Tibetan New Year celebration is a noted event. Other worthwhile tourist attractions include the Omkareshwara Temple, Bagamandala, Raja’s Seat, Madikeri Fort, and Padi Igguthappa Temple.

Coorg is also famous for its coffee, tea, and spice plantations. Madikeri in particular is known for its coffee plantations. An off-track stroll or a simple wandering is most preferred by wanderers visiting the region. Also, the Nagarhole Wildlife Sanctuary is another popular attraction offering a wide variety of flora and fauna. In addition to all this, Nisargadhama near Kushalnagar, is a beautiful island located on the river Cauvery and is home to bamboo groves, small birds, and other animals. You travel through a rope bridge to reach the location, which is another memorable experience altogether.

In a number of ways, Coorg qualifies as a major tourist attraction in India. The fresh ambience is addictive, to say the least, and the widespread lush green avenues combined with key tourist destinations are endearing to all. Be sure to pack your bags this winter and take a short (or maybe long) trip to Coorg. After all, winter is the best time to visit this enchanting hill station located down south.
