Weather is everywhere. There’s no way you’re escaping the clutches of weather. Fluctuating temperatures; clouds playing hide and seek; the sun raging down upon you; and the bitter sweet symphony of the spring; weather is all around you. It affects your everyday affairs so much that even the English language had to look towards weather for structuring some of the most commonly used weather phrases. You use them every now and then and you don’t even realize it! Simply speaking, you’re always thinking weather-wise. We bring you 10 popular weather phrases which we all use from time to time. For starters, let them rain over you:

It’s raining cats and dogs

Whenever it rains heavily or something happens in abundance, you use the good old it’s raining cats and dogs out here. This particular weather phrases never gets old and even today news anchors and tv show hosts continue to put this age old adage to application.

Have your head in the clouds

Those snobby, proud, good for nothing souls really must have their head in the clouds. You got it right! This particular weather phase is used to describe people who can’t get out of the bubble wrapped around their head. They’re not open to ideas and they’re totally cutout from the reality.

A bad weather friend

While fair weather friends will only be with you during the good times, a bad weather friend will be there for you when he or she is most needed. Bad weather friends are highly reliable and will support even when all hell breaks loose.

A ray of sunshine

The phrase is kind of self-explanatory isn’t it? It can be used to address something or someone who makes you feel more positive about things, especially when your life is in sixes and sevens.

Quick as lightning

It’s all about speed with this one. If you’re quick, you’re good. But if you’re really quick, then you’re quick as lightning mate!

Snowed Under

If you’re busy, cramped for time, and don’t even have the time to look up, you’re totally snowed under. You have no time to waste and meeting deadlines is the highlight of your life.

Make hay while the sun shine

Under a cloud

To be under a cloud means that someone or something is under suspicion and/or in disgrace. You’re in the limelight and that too for the wrong reasons. You’re under a cloud and hell might just rain down upon you.

Can you swim against the tides? Can you battle the worst conditions and emerge victorious? If yes, then you sure know how to weather a storm. It means you know how to survive a difficult phase and are a proprietor of ‘rise form the ashes’ and all that!

Under the weather
