Although Northeast Monsoon has set in over Tamil Nadu, rains have subsided over the state one again after a few heavy spells. Tamil Nadu has been receiving light to moderate rains since the last few days. Also, intense rain activities were witnessed over Chennai as well as many parts of Tamil Nadu until October 21.
Since then, the rain activities have reduced significantly because the Low Pressure Area over Bay of Bengal is now over coastal Andhra Pradesh whereas the Well Marked Low Pressure Area has also moved over East Central Arabian Sea.
So, during the last 24 hours, rain intensity has eased down a little over Tamil Nadu. However, moderate showers were witnessed over the state. While, Cuddalore recorded 12 mm of rain, Madurai 15 mm, Chennai 1 mm, Puducherry 4 mm and Tondi recorded 4 mm rains.
Now, we do not expect rain activities to increase further over Tamil Nadu for at least the next two to three days. Until October 26, rains will remain subdued over Tamil Nadu as the weather system will remain North of Tamil Nadu either over Bay of Bengal or Arabian Sea.
We expect rain activities to increase once again over Chennai as well as over Tamil Nadu by October 27 or 28. This is when one or two intense spells of rain cannot be ruled out from Tamil Nadu. These rains will continue until first week of November.
