Marathwada has been reeling under severe drought conditions for quite some time now. This Pre-Monsoon season has not been a prosperous one for the Marathwada region. In fact, from March 1 to May 31, during the pre-Monsoon season, the region has been 34 percent rain deficient.

June until now has also not been promising at all for Marathwada. For the first two days of June, the region has been a whopping 95 percent rain deficient. However, now things are about to take a fortunate train. The water trains that were being sent to the region due to drought conditions will soon be replaced by the Monsoon express which is on its way to Maharashtra.

As per Skymet Meteorology Division in India, this year unlike the past two years, above normal Monsoon rains are expected across the country. In fact, rains will be more over central parts of India including Vidarbha and Marathwada.

Scattered light Pre-Monsoon rains will begin over the region during the next 2 to 3 days and will continue over Marathwada. Around June 6 and 7, rainfall intensity will also start increasing over the Vidarbha region.

Good rains will be observed over drought stricken area of Latur. Other parts including Osamanabad, and Parbhani will also receive rains during this period. In fact, rains are likely to continue over the region for at least 3 to 4 days.

A north-south trough is running right from North India to North Interior Karnataka across Marathwada which will give good rains over the region. After these good showers, there will be a gap, rainsare likely to become subdued over the area.

However, as Monsoon is expected to pick up pace by the second week of June, rains will once again increase over the region bringing in that much needed relief.
