At present the Tropical Storm Darby is located around 1000 km from Hawaii in the Central Pacific. This storm is expected to bring heavy rain later in the weekend. The storm Darby formed over the coast of Mexico around July 11 as a depression.
But with time and helpful weather conditions it strengthened into a tropical storm on July 12. The storm reached Category 3 hurricane on July 16. But the cooler ocean waters have made the storm to weak.
"Darby is expected to maintain tropical storm status over the next several days," said the weatherman.
At present, looks like the storm will skirt off Hawaii, enough to keep the worst conditions of the storm offshore. Nonetheless, wave heights will be on the rise and dangerous rip currents are expected along the northern-facing shores.
People venturing in to the Pacific like Swimmers, surfers and operators of small craft should be should avoid the seas this weekend.
Rains with strong intensity are a possibility across Hawaii, Maui and Molokai. There was a dearth of rain over northern parts of the islands, including Hilo. Hilo had received below-normal rainfall so far this July.
However, too much rain in a short amount of time could lead to localized flash flooding.
Last year around 15 storms formed over the basin. Out of these 15 storms 8 were brought by increased showers.
