The weather in Sri Lanka remains humid throughout the year, by virtue of its geographical location. Although, during Northeast Monsoon, the country of Sri Lanka gets very frequent rains. This time also, almost continuous rains are prevailing all over the state. During the last 24 hours, we have seen heavy to very heavy rainfall over eastern, southern and central parts of the country.

Many cities in Sri Lanka received rains in the last 24 hours, wherein the region of Vavuniya received 10.3 mm in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday,  Trincomalee 29.6 mm, Maha Illuppallama 1.8 mm, Batticaloa 57 mm, Pottuvil 79.2 mm, Mannar 4.3 mm, Maha Illuppallama 1.8 mm and Ratmalana  46 mm.

This was not all and rains are here to stay. Soon, a Low-Pressure Area is expected to form over Southwest Bay close to Sri Lanka coast. Thus, we expect the rainfall activity over the country to continue for now. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue over most parts of central and eastern parts of country for the next 2-3 days.

Rest parts of the country will continue with moderate to heavy rainfall. Also, moderate winds will prevail along the coast.

The south and southwest regions experience more rains than the north and eastern parts of the country. Apart from this, the western regions experience more rains during the Southwest Monsoon season. The eastern half however, experiences rains in the Northeast Monsoon season.
