A series of swine flu cases in the National Capital along with other parts of the country has brought panic among people. On Thursday, 18 fresh cases of swine flu were reported in Delhi increasing the number of cases to 179. The deadly virus, which has widely spread has killed three people in Delhi alone.
With 150 people tested positive for the H1N1 virus, people of Telangana are also under the tight grip of Swine Flu. After a 26-year-old woman in Hyderabad died due to swine flu, the death toll has now touched 11. Also, the virus killed a 46-year-old man in Aurangabad.
The reason behind the sudden surge in swine flu cases is the sharp dip in temperatures as well as humidity conditions. This season, Delhi along with northern parts of the country have been witnessing frequent cold day conditions. Temperatures have constantly been on the lower side. Early snowfall in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have further expedited cold conditions in the nearby areas. Delhi observed two spells of rain in January which further led to cold and humid conditions, providing a suitable platform for the virus to spread.
Cold conditions in Madhya Pradesh with fairly above normal rain has been observe in the areas including Bhopal, Indore and Jabalpur. A few pockets in South India, including Vidarbha, Marathwada and Telangana witnessed cold wave conditions. Earlier, Ramagundam in Telanagana also received unseasonal rain of 63 mm causing humid conditions, helping the virus to escalate even more.
Cold conditions can last upto February accomapnied by spells of rain. Doctors have said that they have enough medicines in stock to treat the virus and the seasonal infection will disappear as soon as the temperatures rise and warmer days set in. Till then, experts have advised people to avoid touching their mouth or nose after using a public tap. Also, people should stay away from the infected as the virus spreads due to infection. Also, if symptoms of cold and flu persist for a longer period of time, people have been advised to get themselves checked immediately.
