While losing weight might sound like an easy job, the efforts and sacrifices associated with it are enough to make a weak man quit. No matter how strong willed you might be, that inviting aroma of bread being toasted in butter lets you flounder for a little while.

While you may have to bid adieu to all those buttery delights, some healthy substitutes always make the weight loss process less painful. One of these god gifted treats is the good old peanut butter. Craving for a healthy yet tasty bread spread? Nothing tastes as heavenly as peanut butter.

There have been several debates on the health benefits of this delectable item. However, believe it or not, peanut butter is a healthy fat and not as bad for you if consumed in moderation.

The main reason for peanut butter being so notorious is the high-calorie count. A tablespoon of peanut butter contains about 100 calories. While it may sound like a little too much, you don’t need to banish it from your daily diet. After all, doesn’t the calorie count work in the calorie in vs. calorie out pattern?

The amount of saturated fat peanut butter contains may be alarming for some, but a tiny bit of these fats are necessary for the development of vital hormones. Also, peanut butter contains healthy fats as well such as polyunsaturated fats and monounsaturated fats. These elements are responsible for keeping heart problems at bay.

The one thing you need to bear in mind is only going for the original peanut butter. Those low-fat peanut butter claims are nothing more than added sugar and trans fats. Also, flavoured peanut butter is no good for you. Why would you want more sugar and artificial food colours in your body?

While peanut butter may not be safe if consumed in excess, if your heart is set out for the good old peanut butter, consuming it in moderate amounts only does good to you. So, the next time you reach out for that butter bowl, stop and take a spoonful of gooey, creamy and somewhat healthy peanut butter instead.
