Sugarless Saturday is back again. Whether you are looking for a way to shed those extra pounds or are just trying to remain healthy and disease free, quitting sugar is your best bet. While it may sound difficult to get rid of that sugar addiction, it is not impossible after all.
Replacing sweets with fruits and bidding farewell to those salad dressing is a good idea. However, some so-called sugarless foods may seem healthy but in fact, they are way harmful to you than you could think of. Check out these five so-called sugarless foods which you must avoid.
Diet Soda
If you have been thinking that drinking diet soda is causing you to have less sugar, you are mistaken, my friend. In fact, artificial sweeteners are much sweeter than sugar itself. Also, consumption of these sugary sodas increases heart attack and cancer risk. So, do yourself a favour, do not drink diet soda at all.
Dried Fruit
When you end up consuming a bowl of dried fruit, you may think that you are eating healthy food. However, you might not be aware of the fact, that these dried fruits have much more sugar than the actual fruit. To preserve the freshness of these fruits, extra sugar and sulphur dioxide is added to them. So, the next time you reach out for that dried fruit jar, think again!
Sports Drinks
A long workout from the gym makes you want to reach out for that energy drink. But, one thing that you don’t know is that the only items these sports drinks contain are water, sugar and artificial food colour. So, all you are doing is adding more sugar in your body. It’s time to switch to the good old coconut water.
Packaged Fruit Juice
While those small tetra packs of fruit juices may sound like the elixir of health drinks, you may want to get a reality check. All these fruit juices contain are loads of sugar. Also, the fruit loses most of its nutritional value in the juice form. So, the next time you want to snack on something healthy, eat fruit instead.
Flavoured Yoghurt
The best food item one can consume to stay healthy is yoghurt. However, the flavoured yoghurts that are stacked in supermarkets are no good for you. Again, all you are adding to your body are artificial sweeteners and flavours. So, instead of going for flavoured or frozen yoghurt, go for the good old plain yoghurt.
